Hi everyone!

While we always have fun on the road looking for new inventory, finding quality vettes seems to be getting more and more difficult as the years go by.  It is especially hard to find low-mileage corvettes that have not been sitting in a field or barn rotting for the last few decades.  A couple of weeks ago though, we hit the jackpot.  Well, that’s how it felt, anyway!  We found not one, but two low mileage vettes less than two hours from home.  The second vette was a surprise- I didn’t know the owner had a second corvette (34K miles) for sale until I showed up to look at the first one (17K miles!!).  Needless to say, we came home with both!  Now if we could only have a few more successful weeks of corvette picking!

Until next time,
RJ & Holly Sottile

Hi everyone!

One of the best parts about this business is that each day is unpredictable and always exciting. The morning of Winter Storm Stella earlier this month was spent plowing snow at the shops and our homes. I finished up a little after 1:00 and stopped for lunch. While eating lunch, a gentlemen called with a 71 convertible for sale that he had owned for over 20 years, and that had been sitting dead for a number of years. Someone else was coming the next morning to look at it, so if I wanted a shot a buying it, I had to act quickly.
Once I saw a few photos of the car and asked some basic questions, we put a deal together and I switched trucks and headed 3 hours south to pick it up. Before too long, I managed to get the corvette running.  We then cleared all the items sitting around the corvette and loaded its extra parts into my truck.  I just barely managed to squeeze my truck and trailer into the small back yard to get the vette loaded, which was a long process in itself!  Altogether, it took us about 2 hours from start to finish.
After stopping for dinner, we headed for home.  Though the roads were surprisingly clear for most of the trip, we fought through drifted snow and white-outs the last ten miles or so to our house. It was a long night, but well worth the opportunity to bring this gem back to life and add it to our inventory!   As you can see in the pictures, a good bath has already worked wonders!

You just never know what a day might bring!

Until next time,
RJ & Holly Sottile

Hi everyone!

We’ve had a busy month, and a lot more fun than we typically have during the winter months!  Early in the month, we bought a vette near Pittsburgh, and then decided to go into the city for the World of Wheels event at the convention center.  This is a huge event full of awesome cars and vendors, and it was a lot of fun to go to a “car show” in January!

In early February, the car club that runs our favorite summer cruise had an indoor event at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown, MD.  Every year, they invite a select group of cars to be displayed inside the mall, and it is pretty awesome to walk around the mall and see some awesome classics and even rat rods, while also doing some shopping.

We’ve also had a couple of interesting road trips!  A couple of weeks ago, we bought another corvette near Pittsburgh on a very wet muddy day, and had to pull it out of the mud where it had been parked, using our truck and several tow straps.  The next week, we traveled to West Virginia, Ohio, and Pittsburgh again, and made some friends along the way.  Check out the pictures!

Until next time,
RJ & Holly Sottile

Massive Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sale!

By RJ Sottile

Here at Hobby Car Corvettes, it has been a busy year with lots of new corvettes coming in as many others leave for new homes all across the country and the world. As in years past, we have some corvettes that just haven’t found the right home yet.  It is time to clear these out to make room for our new inventory rolling in every day.

This is where Black Friday comes in.  Our annual Black Friday sale helps us clear many cars off of our lot, with the result that we have fewer cars to store through the winter.  We also have more space and funds to work with as we add a multitude of fresh corvettes to our inventory throughout the winter and spring.  We accomplish this by offering a large selection of our corvettes at DEEP discounts, sometimes even less than what we paid for them.  This is why the sale only lasts for one week.

So, starting TODAY, until after Cyber Monday (Tuesday, November 29), take advantage of these huge discounts while they last.

Again, this sale ends on November 29, 2016!  These discounted prices will NOT be honored after the end of the sale!

Click here to check out all the Black Friday Deals!

First-Time Corvette Owners- Worldwide!

It’s been a busy couple of months at Hobby Cars.  During what many would think is our slow season (we don’t really have a slow season, in case you’re wondering), we’ve been sending cars off to new homes all over the world.  Recent destinations include Las Vegas, Denmark, the UK, Germany, and Malta.  When our friends and local customers hear that we sell and ship corvettes worldwide, they often think it must be an incredibly lengthy and complicated undertaking.  The truth is, the whole process is surprisingly simple and quick.  Once the buyer is satisfied that they have found the vette for them, it really just comes down to a wire transfer, some “paperwork” completed via email, and arrangement for the car to be transported to port to be loaded onto a cargo ship.  The shipment piece of this may still seem a little daunting, but a good shipping broker will easily make all of the arrangements for you.

One of our recent overseas customers sent us some questions about what he needed to do to keep his corvette in the best condition possible for years to come.  Being a first-time owner of a classic vehicle, he was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the thought of maintaining something over 35 years old, and he was looking for a source that could spell out everything he needed to do.  Luckily for him, maintaining and even repairing a classic corvette is much easier and less confusing than it is for new cars.  Inspired by his questions, we created a blog for new C3 corvette owners with our advice for storage, maintenance, and repairs (because you’re bound to need those eventually!).  Check it out here: How to Maintain Your C3 Corvette, and feel free to share with your friends!

Until next time,

A New Year’s Buying Trip to the Smoky Mountains & How We Bought a Corvette at a Jail at 2:00 in the Morning

If you’ve been reading our newsletter for the last several years, you know that we usually travel to Virginia between Christmas and New Year’s to visit family and buy corvettes to add to our inventory.  This year, our family had some unexpected changes, so we had to change our destination.  We made a spur-of-the-moment decision to start out our trip in an area we’ve always wanted to visit- The Great Smoky Mountains.

We decided to stay in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  On our drive south, we drove straight through Tennessee to North Carolina to pick up a corvette.  Before calling it a night, we wanted to stop to make one last purchase.  By this time it was about 2:00 a.m., but no problem- the vette we were going to see was owned by a prison guard at a local prison.  He was working night shift and had driven the vette to work that night, anticipating our late arrival, so we just met him at work.  And THAT’S how we ended up buying a corvette at a jail at 2:00 in the morning.  It’s maybe not as scandalous as is sounds, but probably something we’ll never mange to pull off again!  We finally made it to our hotel around 3:00 in the morning, ready to rest and enjoy a few days relaxing in Pigeon Forge.

As is our style, we found a couple of cool car museums to visit in the area.  Each one is a stone’s throw from Pigeon Forge, and we recommend visiting both if you’re ever in the area!  The first museum was the Hollywood Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  This was an amazing collection of cars that have been used in famous movies or owned by famous people.  Some of our favorites were Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds, the Delorean Time Machine from Back to the Future, and cars from The Fast and The Furious.

Another museum we found was Floyd Garrett’s Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville, Tennessee.  This museum was packed with American muscle cars from the 1950’s-1970’s.  They had a great collection of corvettes, as well as mustangs, camaros, and much more.  While we were there, we had the opportunity to chat with Floyd Garrett himself.  We learned that his museum is up for sale, as he will soon be retiring and moving.  So if you want to check this place out, you’d better do it soon!

We visited several other attractions at Pigeon Forge, and enjoyed the Christmas lights and shows throughout the whole town, and especially at Dollywood!  We LOVE Christmas and we had certainly come to the right place!  We made our way home slowly- we were able to stop and spend a day with our Virgina family, stopping first to buy a corvette, and we spent New Year’s Eve with some friends in West Virginia.  On the way home, we stopped to buy one more vette in our own state of Pennsylvania.

When it was all said and done, we realized we had slept in 3 different states, bought 4 cars in 4 different states, and put over 1,600 miles on our truck.  It was a little exhausting, but a lot of fun!  Take a look at some of our pictures below, including the four cars we picked up on our trip.

Until next time,

RJ & Holly Sottile

Autumn Cruisin’

A lot of people shut their classic cars up in the garage as soon as the temperature starts dropping and the last car show of the season has come and gone.  Not us!  Fall is one of our favorite times to cruise, thanks to the beautiful views and foliage in our region.  Just tonight we took our new 1969 burgundy convertible out to enjoy some back roads near our home.  If you also live in a place where you can’t enjoy your vette (or other toys) year-round, we hope that you’re enjoying some beautiful autumn weather while it lasts!

When you do finally decide that it’s time to put your car away for the winter (for us it’s when the snow starts to fly!), be sure to follow these tips to properly winterize it until springtime.

Until next time,

Holly Sottile

Hi All,

The Saturday of Labor Day weekend was warm and beautiful, so we thought, “Why not hop in the Mako and take a 200 mile road trip?”  We took a trip to the Western Maryland Street Rod Roundup in Cumberland, Maryland.  The roundup featured hundreds of unique street rods, muscle cars, and classics.  We especially love seeing the rat rods and other customs that come out for events like this. After enjoying this show for awhile, we cruised over to one of our favorite cruise-ins in Hagerstown, Maryland.  This cruise also gets hundreds of cars each week, including some fun rat rods.

Whether you have a corvette or just a daily driver, we hope you also get out and have some FUN on the road this fall!

Until next time,

Hi All,

One of our favorite parts of summer these past two years has been attending the Mecum Auto Auction in Harrisburg, PA.  We’re thrilled that a car auction of this size and caliber has come to our region.  Though we didn’t come home with anything this year, we had a blast viewing the eye candy that crossed the block- over 1,000 cars!  There was no shortage of corvettes, and there were plenty of other classics and customs to feast our eyes on as well.  It’s hard to describe the experience to someone who hasn’t been there, but we’d like to share some of our favorite rides.  Visit our latest blog to take a peek!
Until next time,

Hi All,

It’s been a busy summer at Hobby Cars!  So busy, in fact, that we sort of forgot about our June newsletter… oops!  If we HAD done a June newsletter, we would have been telling you all about our trip to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and to Nashville, Tennessee.  We picked up a red 1981 4 speed vette along the way.  You can see pictures from our trip on our latest blog.
We are also excited to tell you about our visit from WTAJ News earlier this month.  Our local news station discovered our business and asked if they could do a story about us.  We had a lot of fun with it, and we think they did a great job.  The best part is that we can share it with you!  Visit our blog to see the video!
Summer is moving along quickly, but we’re still looking forward to more adventures.  We hope you are too!
Until next time,
RJ Sottile
