1973 was the last year for chrome bumpers on the rear. GM only produced 5,710 L82’s, 3,704 with the close ratio 4spd, and only 4,412 with rear window defogger out of 30,464 Corvettes released in 1973.
1973 marked the end of the chrome bumper corvette era with rear chrome bumpers going away in 1974 and being replaced by a rubber bumpers. The 1973 was a one-year-only body design. GM also did away with the vacuum operated wiper door this year in favor of a longer hood to hide the wipers, and dropped the removable back window in favor of a glue-in window.
