Hello All,

In the last newsletter I told you about our Virginia finds, including the 1974 Medium Blue L82 4spd Convertible we rescued from a front yard. One find I didn’t mention was this gorgeous gazebo (see below), which was just down the lane from the home of the man who sold us two of the Vettes we got there.  He used to play in it as a child and told us about its history, dating back to the mid 1800’s.  The gazebo is made of grapevine.  It was originally part of Alleghany Springs Resort, where people once came to vacation and buy mineral water.

This gazebo was once accompanied by a golf course, a hotel which could accommodate nearly 1000 guests , and a few other gazebos.  A fire devastated the resort in 1904, forcing the owners to shut it down.  The other gazebos were gradually sold and relocated, so this gazebo and the original stone gate and fence are all that remain of the Alleghany Spring Resort.
Stories like this are one of the many reasons why we love the traveling our business allows us to do. Otherwise, we would never have found this awesome treasure from history!  I hope you enjoy our the photos, including the historic photographs of the resort that we found online.

Until next time,
RJ Sottile

This Corvette has had a ton of money spent on it, with a very nice white paint job, 4 gas shocks, front sway bar links, radiator & heater hoses, and a newer complete carpet set. The last owners just had a 010 Block 355/350+Hp engine professionally built for this vette. This motor has been bored .30 over with 10 1/2 to 1 compression, double roller timing chain and gears, Keith Black signature flat top pistons, bearings, lifters, push rods, Crane cams energizer cam with flat tappets, High rise Edelbrock aluminum intake, MSD ignition, high performance spark plug wires, AC delco spark plugs, cap and rotor, water pump, oil pump, Hooker header side pipes. Also, Edelbrock angled plug aluminum heads that are rated up to 420Hp with 170cc intake ports and 60cc exhaust ports. These heads feature 2.020” intake and 1.600” exhaust valves and 1.460” valve springs that allow a .575” maximum lift.

This Corvette is a blast to drive with the extra horse power and the side pipes. 1973 was the last year for rear chrome bumpers on a Corvette.

1977 Black L82 4spd corvette

L82/350/350+hp, 60,000 original miles, 4spd, dark red leather interior, tilt & telo steering column, AM/FM/Cassette radio, power steering, power brakes, X A/C, power windows, rally wheels, sport mirrors, rear window defogger, gymkhana suspension, and much more.

This Corvette has had a lot of upgrades done in recent years. The previous owner had a 1974/75 010 block Cop car 350 engine rebuilt to 350+hp specs. The transmission has been completely rebuilt along with a new heavy duty clutch and pressure plate. They also replaced the radiator, water pump, fuel pump, gas shocks, front calipers, front brake hoses, belts & hoses, dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers, headers, Edelbrock aluminum intake, Holley carb, complete carpet set, complete rear tray, shift console, t-top weatherstrips, and much more.

1977 was the last year for the short back window. GM only produced 6,148 with the L82 engine option, 7,982 with the 4spd transmission, and only 7,269 with the Gymkhana suspension package out of 50,000 Corvettes produced.

1968 Bright Blue corvette

Originally a 350Hp vette, currently has a 1969 350 Corvette engine in it, 91,000 miles on dash, 4spd, tinted glass, pop out rear window, Hurst shifter, 6,000 RPM tachometer, new black leather seat covers, tinted windows, wire wheels, original AM/FM radio, and much more.

The head lights, wipers, and horn work on this Corvette. This Vette seems to run good and move around the parking lot. The seats and carpet look to be newer. GM only built 9,936 T-tops out of 28,566 total production, only 9,440 with the 327/350HP engine option, in 1968.
