How many of you checked out the Lambrecht auction last month? I followed it pretty closely online and on TV and if I had had the time, I would have loved to check it out myself. Don’t get me wrong- I understand that this place wasn’t the goldmine so many people made it out to be. After all the hype drove the prices up so high, very few of those cars could be restored and sold for more than what the buyers spent.
That being said- this sort of thing is still just so cool. To see car enthusiasts all around the country, actually- all around the world, become so excited and come together for one event really speaks to the passion in this hobby. It was passion, not investment interests, that drove the selling prices of so many of these cars to astronomical numbers.
Every bidder had his or her own story about what drew them there. For some, it was about reliving memories from years ago. For others, it was about finally fulfilling a life-long dream. And for many, it was just about experiencing the mystique of a car that was barely driven a few tenths of a mile off the truck into the dealership parking lot. Either way, it was the love of cars that brought everyone together, just like it brings me together with so many great people on a daily basis.
