Sometimes spur-of the moment plans can be the most fun! A couple weeks ago we had a fantastic evening that we weren’t expecting. We were headed to buy a car near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, so we decided to check online for news of any nearby cruise-ins that day. What we found instead was that the 10th Annual Funny Car Nationals was being held at the Keystone Raceway, which is right on our way home! This was the first time this event would take place in our state, having moved from an Ohio track. Of course, we had to check it out!
We bought the car (a yellow 1975), grabbed dinner, and made for the track. We arrived in time to walk through the pits and view the Funny Cars up close. This was the Great Lakes Nostalgia Funny Car Circuit, so the cars look like cars from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Some of them even look like Corvettes. This alone was was worth the trip!
Before and in between rounds of Funny Car racing, we got to watch the bracket races that take place at this track every week. Again, many of these cars were classics, so we loved it!
Witnessing the power, noise, and speed created by the Funny Cars was awesome! (We put together a video on our Facebook- check it out!)
Because this was the 50th anniversary of the Keystone Raceway, and the 10th Anniversary of the Funny Car Nationals, there was also a fantastic fireworks show! It was a great night of unplanned fun!
