The 1969 C3 Corvette marked the second year of the Shark-body generation and the return of the Stingray. It introduced the 350-cid small-block while keeping legendary 427 big-block options (including L68, L71, L88, and ultra-rare ZL1). Below you’ll find 1969 Corvettes for sale, plus everything you need to know to buy confidently – colors, interior changes, options (RPO codes), engines, VIN/ID info, specs and more.

1969 Corvette Prices & Value

Values vary widely by condition, originality, and drivetrain. Here are some general guidelines to consider when shopping for a ‘69 Corvette:

  • Small-block (350) driver-quality cars typically price below highly optioned big-blocks.
  • Big-block 427 cars (L68/L71) command a strong premium, especially with documentation and desirable colors.
  • L88/ZL1 cars are top-tier collector territory with exceptional value when verified.

1969 Corvette Interior Changes

Chevrolet of course took customer feedback to heart and made the necessary changes to please the people. Most talked about was the lack of interior room, leaving drivers and passengers feeling cramped.

This year, door panels were revised providing additional shoulder room in the C3’s tighter cabin. The steering wheel was also reduced from 16 inches to 15 inches to make for easier entry and exit. Chevrolet also made tilt and telescopic steering columns an option this year. In 1968, only telescopic was an option on its own.

Additional Changes Made

1. Engine & Drivetrain
a. Small-block displacement increased from 327 ci (5.4 L) to 350 ci (5.7 L). Output remained the same.
b. All other engines and transmission choices remained unchanged.

2. Wheels & Tires
a) Tire size stayed the same.
b) First year for optional white-lettered tires. Last year for red-striped tires.
c) Wheel width increased from 7 inches to 8 inches.

3. Ignition & Safety Lockout
a) Ignition switch moved from the dash to the steering column.
b) Added lock-out feature:
i) Automatic must be in Park to remove the key.
ii) Manual must be in Reverse to remove the key.

4. Door Handles & Ergonomics
a) New rectangular chrome lever door handles, usable by either hand on either side.
b) Replaces 1968 design that forced left hand on driver side / right hand on passenger side use.

5. Seats & Restraints
a) 1968 was the last year for low-back seats.
b) Headrests (listed as an option) became federally mandated and were included on all 1969 C3s.
C) Seatbelt “homes” (small compartments behind the hand brake) were deleted.

6. Lighting
a) Backup light relocated from below the bumper to above, next to the tail lights.

7. Console & Trim
a) Shift console plaque added below the shifter with vital engine statistics.
b) Front fender louver trim offered as an option.

Frequently Asked Questions about ‘69 Corvettes

What should I consider when buying a 1969 Corvette?

Prioritize matching-numbers originality and documentation (tank sticker, Protect-O-Plate, NCRS/Bloomington). Inspect the frame and birdcage for rust, verify vacuum headlight/wiper door operation, and check rear suspension, electrics, and overall mechanical health. Choose a small-block 350 for easier cruising, or a 427 big-block for peak collectibility and performance.

How do factory options affect a 1969 Corvette’s value?

Powertrains drive price. 427 big-blocks (L68/L71 and especially L88/ZL1) command premiums, while the L46 350/350 is a sought-after small-block. Desirable options like M22, Posi-traction, AC, convertible body style, and documented factory colors increase value, especially with paperwork.

What are common issues with 1969 Chevrolet Corvettes?

Watch for frame/birdcage rust, vacuum system leaks (headlight and wiper doors), and aging electrics. Rear suspension wear (trailing arms, bearings) and cooling/fuel issues on long-stored cars are typical. Fiberglass stress cracks and older repaint quality also surface frequently.

Which color and interior combo is most desirable for 1969 Corvette?

Documented original color/interior combinations tend to lead the market. Perennial favorites include Monaco Orange/Black, LeMans Blue/Black or Bright Blue (white soft top on convertibles), Riverside Gold/Saddle, Fathom Green/Saddle, Cortez Silver/Black, Tuxedo Black/Red, and Daytona Yellow/Black.
